Terms of Use

Last updated 17 October 2026

By creating an account or using HopMic, in the app or on this website, you agree to these terms, including the community guidelines below, and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use HopMic.

This agreement is between you and EchoPoint Entertainment LLC of Raleigh, NC, which operates HopMic. "We" and "us" below mean the company.

What HopMic is

HopMic helps hosts list and run open mic nights, and helps performers and audiences find them and sign up. We are a platform only. We don't organise, run, supervise or control events, and we're not there on the night. Hosts, venues and performers are independent of us.

Mics in Discover are gathered from public listings and may be out of date. If you run one and want it corrected or removed, email us and we'll do it.

Who can use HopMic

You must be at least 13 to use HopMic, and at least 18 to host an event. If you're under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission.

Many open mics are at bars that only admit people over 18 or 21. Hosts and venues are responsible for enforcing age limits at the door; check with the venue before you go.

Your account

Give accurate information and keep it current. Keep your sign-in secure: you're responsible for what happens on your account. One person, one account. If you think someone else has got into yours, tell us straight away.

Price

HopMic is free for everyone, and we don't take payment for slots. If we ever introduce paid features or fees, we'll tell hosts at least 30 days before charging them, and the change won't apply to events already published.

Signing up for a slot

A sign-up or RSVP is a request to the host, not a guarantee of a slot or entry. Hosts run their own rooms: they decide the order, how long you get, how many people they take, what happens if you don't turn up, and whether your claim is approved at all. If you can't make it, cancel in the app so someone in the raffle can take the slot.

A confirmed slot can still change. Venues cancel, hosts reschedule, and rooms run over. Check before you travel.

Safety at the event

Open mics are live, in-person nights with strangers, often with alcohol. Events happen at venues we don't own or control, run by hosts we don't employ, and we don't run background checks on anyone. The venue and the host are responsible for the night, the premises and everyone's safety. Use good judgment, follow the venue's rules and the law, and report anything that worries you. In an emergency, call 911 first.

Community guidelines

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users on HopMic. These apply wherever you post: an event listing, a cover image, a name on a lineup, or a message to a host.

Be respectful. Edgy material is part of comedy, and hosts set the tone of their rooms. But no harassment, threats, or targeting people for who they are: race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or national origin. We block some slurs automatically.

Be honest. Real names on lineups, real events, accurate details. No impersonation and no fake listings.

Keep it safe. No violence, no sexual content, no unwanted advances, and no sharing someone's private information without their consent. Anything sexual involving a minor is removed and reported to the authorities.

Respect the room. Show up when you sign up, or cancel so someone else can take your spot. Keep to your time and the host's rules.

Respect creators. Don't present other people's work as your own, and don't post recordings of others' performances without their permission.

No spam or scams. No unsolicited promotion, and no asking people to pay you outside HopMic for a slot.

Reporting, blocking and what we do

Every event in the app has a Report option, and you can hide a host's events from your feed from the same menu. A host can report a message from a performer, and stop that performer messaging them. You don't need an account to report something, and the host is never told who reported them.

We review reports within 24 hours. We may remove content, limit features or close accounts that break these terms, and repeat or serious breaches mean permanent removal. If you think we got it wrong, email us to appeal.

What you post

You own what you post: event listings, cover images, names and messages. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, display and share it as needed to run and promote HopMic. The licence ends when you delete it or your account, except for copies in backups and what we must keep by law.

Only post what you have the right to post, and nothing that breaks the law or someone else's rights. HopMic doesn't record events. Hosts and venues who record must tell the people there and follow the law.

Messages

You're responsible for the messages you send through HopMic. We may limit messages to prevent abuse.

If you host

You're responsible for your event: accurate details, permission from the venue, a safe room, and following the law and local rules (alcohol, age limits, accessibility and music licensing included). Treat performers and guests fairly. If the night changes or is off, change or cancel it in the app promptly so nobody turns up to a locked door.

Performers' details are for running your night and nothing else. You see their email, phone number and Instagram so you can reach them about that night. Don't add them to a mailing list, share them, sell them, or use them for anything else.

You deal with the venue directly. We're not a party to any arrangement between you, the venue and your performers.

If you perform

You're responsible for your material and for having the right to perform it. Sign-ups follow the host's rules and availability, and a host can move or remove you. HopMic doesn't book you or guarantee a slot, payment or audience. Nothing on HopMic makes anyone our employee, partner or agent.

Claiming a listing

Only claim a mic you actually run, organise or host at your venue. We check every claim before handing anything over, and an account that claims someone else's mic is removed.

Copyright

We respect copyright. If you believe something on HopMic infringes yours, send us a notice with: your physical or electronic signature; the work you say is infringed; the material you want removed and where it is on HopMic; your contact details; a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and you're the owner or authorised to act for them.

If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice. We close the accounts of repeat infringers.

Send notices to hello@hopmic.com, marked "Copyright notice".

Acceptable use

Don't break the law or these terms; scrape, copy or reverse engineer HopMic, or use bots or automated tools on it without our permission; try to get at other people's data or accounts; interfere with its security or overload it; or use it to collect people's personal information without their consent.

Other services

HopMic works with services we don't control, such as Sign in with Apple, Google sign-in, maps and venues' own websites. Their own terms apply, and we aren't responsible for them.

Our rights and your feedback

HopMic, its design, code and name belong to us. We give you a limited, revocable, non-transferable licence to use it as intended. If you send us ideas or feedback, we can use them without owing you anything.

Ending your use

You can delete your account at any time from Profile in the app. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts others at risk or exposes us to legal risk, and we may change or stop the service. The sections on what you post, disclaimers, liability, indemnity and disputes continue after your use ends.

Disclaimers

HopMic is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that HopMic will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that any event, listing or person is as described.

Limit on our liability

As far as the law allows, we and our owners, officers and employees are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. We're not liable for what venues, hosts, performers, audience members or other users do, or for injury, loss or damage at or connected with an event. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of $100 and what you paid us in the 12 months before it. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Indemnity

If someone makes a claim against us because of what you posted, an event you ran, how you used HopMic or a breach of these terms, you agree to defend us and cover our losses and reasonable legal costs.

Disputes

If you have a problem with us, email us first and give us 30 days to try to sort it out.

These terms are governed by the laws of North Carolina, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts in Wake County, North Carolina, unless the law where you live says otherwise.

Changes and contact

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. For a significant change, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Using HopMic after that means you accept it.
